Online Casinos Turned Down By Iowa Racing And Gaming Commission |
Iowa already has twenty casinos that are operating in the state. That number was not enough, apparently, and five communities were looking for approval for casinos in their areas.
That hope will have to wait a bit longer, if it ever happens at all. The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission turned down the request of those five communities this week.
The Commission is claiming that they must do research first before they make any decisions on expanding casino gambling in the state. They will now put together a committee that will investigate the pros and cons of expanded gambling.
"I'm thinking that maybe we shouldn't visit this for a year and a half maybe two years. Waiting to get the study and having our own input go into it may take longer than a year," said Toni Urban, a Commission member.
The areas that were looking to bring new casinos to their locations were Franklin County, Tama, Newton, Ottumwa, and Fort Dodge. Leaders from the communities tried to persuade the Commission, but were unsuccessful.
