| Will Austria Defy the Commission |
|
With so many European countries ignoring and defying requests from the European Commission, industry analysts wonder if Austria will follow in the footsteps of Sweden by running a state-run gambling monopoly. Sweden currently runs perhaps the most effective online casinos gambling monopoly in the world – the Swedish gaming system is safe, secure, monitors problem gambling, and above all else, it’s the only choice. The new Austrian online casinos gambling site is linked to the Swedish gaming monopoly through their chosen gambling platform in addition to the fact that Svenske Spel, Sweden’s monopoly, has offered consulting advice to the new site. Austria currently does not run a monopoly and has no legislation in place to suggest that that the government will ban other online casinos and gambling sites. Now that Win2Day has launched though most in the industry are waiting to ensure that Bwin is still able to offer betting services in the country. With three major European Union nations openly defying requests from the Commission to honor EU principles by opening gambling, many in the online casinos industry wonder if Austria will keep its borders open to other gambling companies. The three EU member states with gambling monopolies include Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands. Besides Win2Day and Bwin Entertainment, Casinos Austria is involved in the lottery as well as venturing into online poker. Both Bwin and Casinos Austria would be negatively affected if Austria passes monopolistic gambling laws. Source:http://www.gamblecraft.com/ |
