Problem Gambling Counselors Moving To Hotlines
Problem gambling has been at the fore front of many arguments world wide over the casino gambling debate. Singapore is showing that with the proper tools, problem gambling can be curtailed.

Most opponents of casino gambling are quick to point out that problem gambling can occur more frequently when casino are involved.

The National Council on Problem Gambling is doing everything possible to prove that theory wrong. Their latest efforts have brought upon the use of phone helplines.

The Institute of Mental Health has partnered with the NCPG to start these helplines. Counselors will be available on the phone lines for people who need help with their problem gambling.

After calling, counseling will take place. The caller will then be referred to a designated NCPG center for follow up treatment.

IMH's Community Addiction Management Programme will be supplying the counselors. The two groups involved have been working together since 2005, and are doing their part in trying to curb problem gambling.
