| Casino Players – are you Superstitious? |
|
According to a survey by a leading UK Casino site, many of their players are superstitious. These superstitions vary from simply getting out of bed the same side every day, to carrying lucky pendants or following strict routines in order not to disrupt their karma when they are about to go online to play their favourite casino site. According to the VIP Casino Club, a site for UK players, its survey showed that of the many thousands that have registered on their site and took part in the survey, 64% were superstitious in nature, and when playing roulette or blackjack online, followed certain routines and methods which showed superstitious tendencies. Many players, said they stayed loyal to one site because they felt it was fate that led them to that site and others suggested that they had a lucky charm close by, with objects as obscure as a lucky rabbits foot, or an old scarf which they wore previously that they felt had brought them luck. Research conducted by National Savings and Investments found that a third of Britons admit that they are superstitious. Britain’s top three bad luck omens are breaking a mirror, walking under a ladder and seeing a single magpie. Many people feel that superstitions are hocus-pocus, believing that it is simply a mythical description for a commonly occurring bad experience. Chances are that if you walk under a ladder many times, you are likely to be hit by paint. But many people who work in high level and very logical occupations such as financial experts, believe these superstitions are real, and follow them strictly. No matter how technologically advanced our world becomes, such superstitions still influence and rule our thinking and the way we organise our daily lives. Some of the most important events in our lives our sprinkled with superstition, not least weddings. Most brides still wouldn’t dare see the groom on the morning of the big day and will try to wear something old, new, borrowed and blue. Many single people secretly yearn to catch the bouquet and many brides will turn up late for the occasion. A survey by the University of Herfordshire in the UK, found that 77% of respondents were at least a little superstitious. The majority of people are concerned with the amount of bad luck that they might receive as opposed to the amount of good luck. The view of the world is deemed to be a bleak one, and so this influences people into thinking that bad luck is just around the corner and they need to protect themselves from it. So ensuring that they do not tempt fate, people consciously avoid superstitions. Experts believe that in order to maintain some control on our lives, we invent these superstitions and routines in order to convince ourselves that we can influence the outcome of an event. Perhaps this is why many casino players suggested that they have lucky charms, and follow routines when playing their games. It is very true indeed that most players will have a lucky number and will always include this number when putting the chips down on a roulette game and most say that their lucky number is the first one they choose to use. Many sceptics would say that living life believing in superstition can be detrimental and is a childlike way to go through life. Research also shows that 51% of women are more superstitious than men, and it has been suggested that this is because women often suffer lower self-esteem and less perceived control over their lives. According to one researcher, thinking in a more logical and positive way is the route forward, and this is the only way of maintaining control over your life. So the next time you play roulette or another casino game online, try a more logical approach to your numbers, maybe discover a different method of playing, and use numbers you would not normally choose. Have a positive frame of mind and you never know, it could time for a big casino win. |
